Stool (Specimens for Culture)
Before you start...
- The liquid in the container is not toxic.
Step 1
Do not use a laxative before collection of stool specimen.
Step 2
It is very important that the water or urine does not come into contact with the stool. The stool may be collected in a clean dry container, or by using plastic wrap (e.g. Saran or any other brand) by stretching it over the toilet.
Step 3
Using the collection spoon attached to the cap, add enough specimen until the liquid reaches the arrow on the label. DO NOT PASS THE FILL LINE. If the stool is liquid collect 2 or 3 spoonfuls especially any area that is mucoid or bloody. Tighten cap securely and mix specimen thoroughly.
Step 4
Label the specimen container with your full name, MCP, date and time of collection.
Step 5
Deliver the specimen to the Laboratory as soon as possible.
Step 6
For sanitary and safety reasons, the container must be enclosed in a biohazard bag.
