The Health Research Ethics Authority Act was proclaimed on July 1, 2011. As a consequence of the proclamation of this Act, on October 19, 2011, the Western Health Research Ethics Board discontinued providing ethics reviews for research.
All research now conducted within Western Health requires review and approval by the provincial Health Research Ethics Authority (HREA). Applications for research review by the HREA are available at http://www.hrea.ca/Home.aspx.
Once research is approved by the HREA, principal investigators will then have to submit their research to the newly established Research Review Committee at Western Health. The application for research review can be uploaded here. Through this new research process, Western Health will decide if a proposed study can be accommodated and/or of benefit to Western Health.
Anyone requiring assistance with the new process for research ethics review can contact Ms. Darlene Welsh, Regional Manager Research and Evaluation, at 634-4306 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Western Health Research Ethics Board continues to be the board of record for studies previously approved by this board. Former research ethics board members will continue to monitor those studies. Requests for resource review or documentation related to previously approved studies by the Western Health Research Ethics Board must be submitted to Ms. Darlene Welsh.
Thank you for your ongoing support of research within Western Health.
Western Health has started another Community Health Needs and Resources Assessment (CHNRA) in January 2016. The results of this assessment will be used to identify health related issues and resources in our region and to help us plan our programs and services. The components of the CHNRA include a community health survey, focus groups, health status statistics, and community resource listings.
