Wait Times
Did you know that each time a patient does not come for their scheduled appointment or procedure the wait list grows?
This is because the missed appointment time goes unused instead of being booked for another patient who is waiting, and an additional appointment slot has to be used to reschedule the patient who missed their appointment.
The Newfoundland and Labrador Department of Health and Community Services has a website where you can find information about wait times for some health services by region in the province where the service is provided. Provincial Wait Time Information
Waitlist Management considers processes from referral to assessment to receipt of a service. Effective waitlist management recognizes the need for standard definitions and tools to allow for the collection of comparable indicators of access as well as the determination of evidence-based benchmarks for medically acceptable wait times. The Western Zone works with the Department of Health and Community Services to collect wait time information and, ultimately, improve access in five key areas: cancer care, cardiac care, vision restoration, joint replacement and medical imaging (diagnostic) services.
The wait times information is meant to act as a guide for both doctors and patients on wait times at facilities throughout the Western Zone. The Western Zone encourages you to contact your doctor or other health-care provider if you have any questions or concerns about your health care issues.
Please remember, if you are unable to make your appointment, please call ahead within 48 to 72 hours before your appointment time to let us know. This way we can still use this appointment time by offering it to another patient who is still waiting.
