Western Health continued with a recruitment campaign last week to hire more nursing staff for the Bay St. George – Stephenville area. The recruitment campaign supported nurses from the area to travel to Nursing Schools throughout Atlantic Canada to talk about the job opportunities available, to talk about our region and what communities in the area have to offer.

The recruitment effort is designed to enable Western Health to meet the demand for nursing staff across acute, long term care and community based nursing services.

 “Over the past year Western Health has been successful in recruiting nurses for our region. However, we are focusing on the Stephenville area in an effort to meet the vacancies that currently exist and to support expected retirements. These jobs are full time permanent employment with an added signing bonus of $6,000 offered through the support of the Provincial Government”, said Rob Kenny, Vice President of Human Resources, “These positions are great opportunities for new nurses or expatriate Newfoundlanders who want to return to Newfoundland to work in our region.”

Kenny said, “We are hopeful that we can fill all of these positions in the not too distant future. That will ensure that we can offer consistent services to the residents of the Stephenville area and to support a healthy workplace for all staff at Western Health.”

“Our recruitment campaign generated a lot of interest in the nursing positions we have available”, said Anne Doyle, Regional Director of Long Term Care. “Hopefully, that interest will pay off in the hiring of nurses to fill these positions”.

Western Health is also continuing to recruit nursing positions in all areas of the Western region.
