The following Workshops are available from Mental Health & Addiction Services.   These workshops require delivery by Mental Health & Addictions staff. Please contact the Regional Addictions Prevention  or Mental Health Promotion Consultant for more information or complete the Presentation Request Form.

NEW! Parent Night Out - Teens & Drugs  
This workshop will support parents in learning more about teen substance use and engage parents in a discussion about teens and drugs. The activities in this workshop provide parents with key information, local services/supports, tools and strategies for supporting their teens in preventing substance use, delaying the onset of use or reducing harms associated with substance use. Use  this Guide to create your own Parent Night Out event or series of events. Timelines are provided for each activity, to allow for customization of your event or series. Case Management & Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder
This 1/2 day workshopexplores possible intervention and case management techniques for children, families and workers involved with the child protection system.

Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder: A Guide For Justice (Co-Facilitator: RCMP/RNC Recommended)
This all day workshop discusses the basics of FASD (diagnosis, physical & mental characteristics, statistics), an understanding of FASD & the Brain, how a person with FASD may present in the Justice System (red flag behaviours, moving through the system) & a listing of community resources.



Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder: Understanding the Basics
This all day workshop provides a comprehensive understanding of FASD, diagnostics, physical, mental & emotional & behavioural  characteristics, as well as information on prevention & health promotion messages.



The Fundamental Concepts in Addiction
This one-day workshop provides an overview of drug classifications & effects, what is addiction, impacts of addiction on the family  & treatment & recovery. This workshop also explores how to know if you or someone you know may have a problem with alcohol &/or drugs & how to provide support.



Gambling Awareness
This one-day workshop focuses on understanding the nature of gambling behaviour, as well as gambling trends & warning signs. It explores the impact of gambling on the family & gives participants an overview of recovery & community resources.



Harm Reduction
This one-day workshop provides an understanding of harm reduction, including the origins, principles, and goals. The workshop also explores harm reduction specifics such as safer substance use, safer sex, methadone maintenance, overdose prevention, and pain management.

Helping Skills Facilitator Training
This one-day train the trainer program will certify you to facilitate the 14 module  Helping Skills  Training Program. Facilitator Training Program will  qualify you to provide training in the skills of helping to people in  your organization & community.

Motivational Interviewing
This is an interactive one-day workshop where participants learn how to apply motivational interviewing techniques  & strategies. Motivational Interviewing is a client-centered counseling style for eliciting behavior change by helping clients to explore  & resolve ambivalence. It is a non-confrontational approach that supports the client's right to choose where they want to be  & how to get there. This workshop has been adapted to various populations & issues.

Picking Your Prevention & Promotion Path

This one-day workshop provides information on the key concepts of prevention & promotion, using the Circle of Health to plan prevention & promotion initiatives, an understanding of risk & protective factors, examples of prevention & promotion in action & an understanding of best-practice, evidence based intiatives.

Strengthening Families for the Future: Facilitator Training
This one-day training workshop provides an overview of the Strengthening Families for the Future Program. It outlines the various responsibilities of team members & it provides an opportunity to begin the team development process. Facilitators will become familiar with the program manuals & activities.
