Radiothon

Each year the Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital Foundation, in conjunction with Steele Communications hosts the annual Radiothon that is broadcast over the local radio station, CFSX. All proceeds are in aid of priority medical equipment.  The Radiothon has become the largest annual public appeal to raise funds. The event is broadcast over three radio stations in our region (CFCB, CFGN and CFSX), and is hosted by Steele Communications. The actual broadcast requires the assistance of hundreds of volunteers throughout the region as well as Steele Communications staff and the Foundation's Board of Directors. The Radiothon continues to be the major fundraising public appeal for the Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital Foundation.  This event takes place in late September or early October, the weekend prior to the Thanksgiving Day weekend. This year the Foundation appealed for donations to purchase a Portable FAST Ultrasound at a cost of $49,000, a Colonoscope at a cost of $35,000, 2 High Definition Camera Heads at a cost of $29,000 and a Glidescope at a cost of $20,000- a total of $133,000 in state of the art medical equipment to be placed in the Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital.  The broadcast was held on Friday, September 30th from 7 a.m to 9 p.m. (one day) at the CFSX Radio Station on West Street. This year saw over $67,000 in pledges being raised.  Thanks to the many individuals, businesses and organizations who made Radiothon 2011 a success!

Caribou Curling Club Fun Spiel

Since the Fun Spiel’s inception in 1997, the Caribou Curling Club has hosted this event each winter with proceeds donated to the Foundation in aid of the purchase of equipment that allows the Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital to maintain a high quality of service. Several businesses, organizations and individuals participate in this fun-filled, non-competitive event that ultimately supports a great cause. The organizers are volunteers who give selflessly of their effort and time. This year's Fun Spiel will be held on Friday and Saturday, November 18th & 19th, 2011 at the Caribou Curling Club on Massachusett's Drive.  Team entry fee is $80; businesses may sponsor the full amount of $80 or a partial sponsor fee of $40.  Individuals who have a partial sponsor will pay $10.  All games will consist of four ends.  Registration forms for the curling spiel may be obtained at the Foundation office or the Caribou Curling Club. A wine and cheese will be held on Friday evening beginning at 8 p.m. and all curlers are eligible for prize draws to be held on Saturday evening.  For more information, please contact Barry Lomond at (709) 643-5475, Dennis Byrne at (709) 643-2075, the Caribou Curling Club at (709) 643-4871 or the Foundation office at (709) 643-7478.

Tree of Love

Each year during Christmas time, the Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital Foundation, in conjunction with other organizations, decorate Trees of Love at the Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital and in various other prominent sites throughout the Bay St. George and Port au Port area. These trees are trimmed with Christmas lights that have been purchased by people in memory of a loved one. Names of those remembered in this way are displayed on a sign adjacent to the tree and a special carol and memorial service is held at the specific location to further highlight the Tree of Love Campaign. Communities participating with dates for
