Easing of Visitor Restrictions

Feb 10, 2022

Western Health is pleased to advise that each patient or resident at hospitals, long term care homes, health centres and personal care homes may now have two support persons.

The care team will work with patients, residents and families to identity the support persons. In addition, volunteers and hairdressers are now welcome at health care facilities.

The following guidelines apply:

  • The support persons should remain consistent as much as possible but may be changed every 14 days.
  • For direction on palliative care and end-of-life visitation, please discuss visitation with the care team.
  • All visitors will be screened at entry and are required to wear a mask for the duration of their visit.
  • The care team will work with the patient/resident/family to coordinate the visiting times, to ensure physical distancing requirements can be maintained by the support persons in the space available.
  • When visiting a patient/resident in a shared room, please keep in mind the physical distancing requirements and comfort level of the other patients/residents of the room.
  • Visitation by the support persons may be limited in areas of outbreak. Families will be contacted in the event visitation is restricted.
  • Individuals who go to emergency departments or attend appointments may have one support person if required.
  • Volunteers and hairstylists must be fully vaccinated and follow all public health guidance.

For those unable to visit in person at this time, please consider virtual visitation as an alternate way to connect with loved ones during these visitor restrictions. To arrange for a virtual visit, please also discuss your request with the care team.

Western Health understands the impact visitor restrictions may have on families and residents/patients. Individuals with questions may contact their loved one’s health care team. Western Health would like to thank the public for their understanding and co-operation at this time.
