Library Services

The Library Services mission is to provide timely and accurate library service by planning, maintaining and delivering the highest quality information and resources to support the information needs of Western Health and its affiliates. Professional librarians find evidence-based information and provide instruction in the use of health information databases. The librarians also perform literature searches, will advise on Internet resources related to a wide variety of health-related topics and will help you develop search strategies.

With access to advanced technologies we provide:

At present we have approximately 4000 medical, nursing and allied health textbooks in our collection. We are currently receiving approximately 200 print journal titles and keep back issues for the current year + 10 years. We are a member of the Newfoundland and Labrador Health Knowledge Information Network, which provides us with access to electronic resources such as Pubmed, CINAHL, Cochrane Collection, MDConsult, StatRef, Social Services Abstracts, PsychInfo as well as the full text of 1800 electronic journals. These resources are available on any computer on our network. For additional access please contact the Library staff for details.

Affiliated physicians and staff of Western Health, as well as the faculty and students of the Western Regional School of Nursing have full borrowing privileges. The Library does not extend borrowing privileges to the general public and patients, but coin operated photocopiers are available in the Library.
