Flu Shots Available Starting October 25
Western Health is advising that influenza vaccine clinics (flu shot) will be available beginning October 25. Western Health is recommending the flu shot for everyone older than 6 months of age in order to reduce spread of influenza and protect our population.
This year Western Health’s vaccine clinics will provide both flu vaccines and COVID-19 vaccines. Residents may receive both vaccines safely at the same time.
Appointments are required for flu shots. Residents who wish to receive a COVID vaccine at the same appointment as their flu shot do not need to book a separate appointment for their COVID vaccine. In this case, individuals should book a flu shot appointment and on arrival at the clinic, advise the registration clerk that they also need a COVID vaccine.
Individuals who require only a COVID vaccine are encouraged to book an appointment, however they will be accommodated at any vaccine clinic without an appointment.
Appointments can be booked online here. Those unable to book online can schedule an appointment by calling 1-833-703-5470 toll free.
Significant efforts have been made to ensure that public health measures are in place for the protection of those receiving their vaccine as well as health care staff. Everyone will be screened for symptoms at the entrance, will be required to wear a mask which will be provided at the clinic.
Everyone above the age of six months should get the flu shot annually, particularly those who are at increased risk for complications from influenza, and those in close contact with these individuals.
Western Health reminds the public to arrive for their appointment no earlier than ten minutes in advance, to bring their MCP card and to wear a short-sleeved shirt. Further instructions will be provided on site.
