Western Health Cancelling Appointments for Routine Bloodwork, Medical Imaging Services

Feb 15, 2021

Western Health is cancelling all appointments for routine blood work. The cancellations follow the announcement by the Provincial Chief Medical Officer of Health to move to COVID-19 Alert Level 5.

Urgent laboratory services will go ahead at all outpatient blood collection centres.  Appointments will go ahead for patients already scheduled for INR, transplant blood work, or chemotherapy blood work, patients should go to their appointment at the scheduled time. Requisitions for routine bloodwork dated prior to February 15, 2021 will not be accepted at this time. For outpatients requiring emergency bloodwork, a physician/healthcare provider must call or email to arrange an appointment.

All routine Medical Imaging Services and screening referrals are also cancelled. Emergency, urgent, and obstetrical procedures will proceed as scheduled.

Western Health is attempting to call patients with appointments for laboratory and medical imaging services between Monday, February 14, 2021 and Wednesday, February 17, 2021 regarding the status of their appointment. As we are currently experiencing larger than normal call volumes at Western Memorial Regional Hospital in particular, Western Health requests that people do not call the main line (784-5000, 637-5000) to inquire about appointments.

Individuals with questions about their health are encouraged to call 811 or visit www.811healthline.ca. For more information on COVID-19, please visit the Provincial Department of Health and Community Services website.
