Western Health Provides Update on Support Persons for Labour and Delivery

Feb 15, 2021

Western Health advises that patients throughout the region may have one partner/support person present during labour and delivery. The partner/support person may stay with mother and baby from admission to discharge, provided they remain in the healthcare facility.

For the safety of all patients, staff and physicians, the partner/support person:

  • Will be screened for COVID-19;
  • Must wear a mask at all times, and
  • Arrive at the healthcare facility with supplies for the duration of their stay.

If the partner/support person leaves the health care facility prior to discharge, the partner/support person will not be permitted to return.

If the partner/support person has travelled outside the region, is a rotational worker, or on mandatory isolation, please contact the Maternal Newborn unit at 709-784-5201/784-5516.

Changes to visitation during Alert Level 5 are critically important to the safety of our patients, staff, and physicians.

Western Health thanks the public for their understanding and co-operation during this time.

Individuals who have questions about their health are directed to call 811 or visit www.811healthline.ca. For more information on COVID-19, please visit the Provincial Department of Health and Community Services website.
