Flu Shots Available by Appointment Only Starting This Week
Western Health is advising that the influenza vaccine (flu shot) will be available at no cost to residents beginning October 21. Appointments will be required for flu shots this year in order to ensure physical distancing and to avoid long wait times. Appointments can be booked online through Health Myself or by calling 1-833-951-3904 (toll free). All appointments need to be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance. Walk in appointments are not available.
“Each year, we recommend that you get the flu vaccine in order to protect you, your loved ones and patients from influenza. It also helps reduce the spread of influenza in our communities. Since we are in the middle of the pandemic, the flu vaccine is especially important this year in order to reduce the impact on the health care system if we do see a surge of people becoming ill from the COVID-19 virus.”
Dr. Monika Dutt, Medical Officer of Health
Significant efforts have been made to ensure that public health measures are in place for the protection of those receiving their flu shots as well as health care staff. Everyone will be screened for symptoms at the entrance and required to wear a mask. Due to the need for physical distancing, individuals are not able to enter the clinic waiting area until 10 minutes prior to their scheduled appointment.
Individuals are asked to bring their MCP card and wear short sleeves when they go to get their flu shot.
