Privacy and Spiritual Health

Your privacy while at Western Health is very important to us. Upon registration/admission to an acute or long term care home, you will be asked, “During you stay are you open to a visit from a leader/representative from your faith or cultural tradition?” Spiritual health services such as visitation by denominational chaplains, community clergy and spiritual health volunteers will be available only for those who identify a religion/cultural tradition. Notification of your hospitalization or other health information can be shared with others, including your faith or cultural leader, only with your consent.

Here are a few suggestions:

  • Identify your faith or cultural tradition when you are being registered/admitted
  • Have a family member or friend contact your faith or cultural leader if you want them to visit you during your time in hospital
  • Ask a chaplain, spiritual health volunteer or member of the healthcare team to notify your faith or cultural leader directly or ensure that your information is indicated on your medical record.
