Waitlist Management considers processes from referral to assessment to receipt of a service. Effective waitlist management recognizes the need for standard definitions and tools to allow for the collection of comparable indicators of access as well as the determination of evidence-based benchmarks for medically acceptable wait times. In keeping with the directions from the First Ministers meeting of 2004, Western Health is working with the Department of Health and Community Services to collect wait time information and, ultimately, improve access in five key areas: Cancer Care, Joint Replacement, Cardiac Care, Vision Restoration and Diagnostics.
The Wait Times information is meant to act as a guide for both doctors and patients on wait times at facilities throughout the western region. Western Health encourages you to contact your doctor or other health care provider if you have any questions or concerns around your own health care issues.
