Western Health would like to advise that last evening, there was a water sprinkler pipe break at Bay St. George Long Term Care Centre in Stephenville Crossing. As a result of the break, there was water damage to the Chronic Care Unit. This incident affected twenty four residents who have been temporarily removed from that area of the centre.
Arrangements are being made for crews to assess and complete clean up and repairs to the unit which includes resident rooms, a nursing desk and a staff lounge. Repairs to the broken pipe have already been completed.
Most of the residents are expected to be accommodated at alternate locations within the centre.
The initial repairs are expected to take several days to complete. At that time, residents are expected to be able to return to their rooms. Final completion and clean up is expected to take about two weeks.
Western Health will like to take this opportunity to commend its staff at the Bay St. George Long Term Care Centre who worked effectively to ensure that safety and quality care for the residents was ensured during this event. We would also like to thank families for their co-operation.
