The Board of Trustees of Western Health held its Annual General Meeting last evening in Port aux Basques. At the meeting, the board presented its annual report, an overview of the highlights and accomplishments of the past year and its audited financial statements for 2007-2008.
The Board of Trustees of Western Health held its Annual General Meeting last evening in Port aux Basques. At the meeting, the board presented its annual report, an overview of the highlights and accomplishments of the past year and its audited financial statements for 2007-2008.
Some of the highlights of the past year include the development of a new strategic plan for 2008-2011, significant investment in medical imaging equipment such as x ray, ultrasound, CT and MRI, capital equipment investment of $4.3 million dollars, and 40 new positions to support population health and the provision of community based services. Western Health was also successful in recruiting 33 new physicians to our region including 19 new Family Practice physicians.
“We are extremely pleased to present our highlights and accomplishments of the past year to the people of the Western region”, said Dr. Tony Genge, Chair of the Board of Trustees for Western Health. “As well, Western Health balanced its budget over the past year and we are confident that the organization is on a strong financial foundation.”
In presenting its audited financial statements, the Board achieved an operating surplus of approximately $1.7 million. Based on the accrual method of accounting that includes items like vacation pay and severance pay accrual, Western Health had a surplus on operations of $96,000. Western Health has a total budget of just over $249 million dollars.
