Recognizing World Hepatitis Day

Jul 24, 2014

Western Health and The AIDS Committee of Newfoundland and Labrador are recognizing World Hepatitis Day. A Barbeque and Community Service Fair will take place on the Majestic Lawn July 29, 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in Corner Brook.  In Stephenville, it will take place in front of Home Hardware July 28, 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Hepatitis C is a virus that can cause liver disease. It is spread through blood to blood contact.  There is no vaccine to protect against hepatitis C. In Canada, 1 in 5 people with Hepatitis C do not know they have the virus. Early testing and detection is an important factor for successful treatment and recovery. Learn the risk factors and talk to your health care provider about getting tested.
