Please be advised that visitation restrictions that have been put in place earlier this week on the Long Term Care Unit at the Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Centre will continue due to confirmed Norwalk virus in those who have been ill in that part of the facility.
Although there have been no new cases in residents or staff in the last 48 hours, a thorough disinfection of the Long Term Care Unit will now commence. The earliest the unit would be expected to be open to regular visitation would be tomorrow afternoon. A further statement will be released tomorrow.
Norwalk virus produces an especially contagious form of vomiting and diarrhea. It generally runs its course in one to two days. Most people are considered still infectious for at least two days after the vomiting and diarrhea have settled.
Western Health would like to ask the public’s co-operation during this temporary visitation ban.
People are reminded to practice proper hand washing soap and water. Please do not to visit the elderly or the ill in any of our health facilities if you have had vomiting, diarrhea until those symptoms have gone away for at least 48 hours.
Exceptions for visitation may be made on a case-by-case basis for immediate family members of the terminally ill. Please contact the hospital unit directly for instructions on how to proceed.
