For immediate release (Corner Brook, NL, February 7th, 2011) Please be advised that a visitation restriction is in place at the Protective Care Unit of Corner Brook Long Term Care Home. The visitation restriction is in place due to an outbreak of influenza-like illness in the facility.
Western Health would like to ask for the public’s co-operation during this temporary visitation restriction.
Residents of the Protective Care Unit (PCU) will be permitted to have one designated visitor during the restriction.
As well, exceptions for visitation may be made on a case-by-case basis for immediate family members of the terminally ill. Please contact the home directly for instructions on how to proceed.
People who have flu like symptoms are asked to refrain from visiting the Corner Brook Long Term Care Home or any of Western Health’s facilities. Individuals with any of these symptoms should rest at home, drink fluids, practice proper hand washing with warm water and soap, and if the symptoms persist contact their physician.
To prevent the spread of infection in any institution in the Western Health region, we ask the public to follow these simple steps:
Wash/Sanitize your hands when you enter or leave any of Western Health's facilities.
Please only visit your loved one and limit your movement within the facility. For example, please do not go to the canteen or other common areas after visiting the Protective Care Unit.
There may be times when you are asked to follow special precautions or instructions where you visit i.e. wearing gloves, gowns, masks or washing hands.
Western Health would like to thank you for your cooperation in helping prevent the spread of infectious diseases.
