Western Health and Partners to Test Emergency Preparedness in Stephenville Crossing - Nov 10, 2010

Western Health will be testing its emergency preparedness with an emergency exercise at Bay St. George Long Term Care Centre in Stephenville Crossing on Saturday, November 13th, 2010.  This is the second exercise of this type in the past few weeks.  The exercise is being conducted in co-operation with Barachois Search and Rescue and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

During this exercise, staff at the Bay St. George Long Term Care Centre will be testing their Missing Resident procedures.  As part of this test, the Barachois Search and Rescue Team and The Royal Canadian Mounted Police will test their ability to coordinate and run a ground search in the area surrounding the Long Term Care facility.

“This exercise, and the one recently held in Port aux Basques, gives us an important opportunity to practice and refine our skills so that we are able to respond when “real life” emergencies happen”, stated Michelle House, acting Vice President of Health Protection.  “We will continue to prepare for many difference types of emergencies.”

Residents in the area of the Bay St. George Long Term Care Centre may expect to see a number of emergency vehicles and Search and Rescue team members in the area during the external area search.

Please be advised that residents of the Bay St. George Long Term Care Centre will not be involved in the exercise as a Western Health staff member will be acting as the missing resident during the exercise.
