Western Health would like to advise patients in the Bay St. George region that Obstetrical and Gynecological Services will be offered from Western Memorial Regional Hospital on a temporary basis due to the resignation of the sole Obstetrician/Gynecologist at Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital in Stephenville.
Individual Family Practice Physicians and Public Health Nurses will be responsible for the provision of prenatal care to expectant mothers. Family Practice Physicians will arrange for referrals of their patients to one of the three Obstetricians located in Corner Brook. These Specialists will service the full region from Bartlett’s Harbour in the north to Port aux Basques in the south to Baie Verte Junction in the east.
Western Health is currently working to fill the two vacant Obstetrician/Gynecologist positions at Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital through national and international recruitment efforts.
“We are aggressively working to find more Specialists in this field and are actively recruiting for our two vacancies”, said Dr. Ken Jenkins, Vice President of Medical Services for Western Health. “During this time, our primary concern is providing the best service possible under the safest conditions for all expectant mothers”.
