Influenza is a severe respiratory infection caused by influenza A and B viruses and is commonly referred to as "the flu."The symptoms, although cold-like, are far more serious and can include the sudden onset of headache, chills, fatigue, and cough accompanied with body aches and fever.
Vaccination is the most effective way to prevent influenza. The seasonal influenza vaccine is available at no cost to all residents 6 months and older from Community Health offices, doctors and nurse practitioners.To receive your influenza vaccine please call your local Community Health Office.
Influenza prevention tips:
- Get your annual flu shot.
- Wash hands thoroughly with soap and warm water, or use hand sanitizer.
- Cough and sneeze in your sleeve or tissue.
- Stay home if you're sick.
